SHAWNEE ON THE DELAWARE, PA -- The University of Scranton men's golf team shot a 296 (+8) in the opening round of the Landmark Conference Championships and sits in second place behind Drew by three strokes.
Drew leads the overall team standings at 293 (+5). Elliot Parker of Drew shot the low round of the day at 67 (-5).
- Junior Danny Harding (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) carded the best round of the day for Scranton at 73 (+1) and is tied for third individually. Harding posted two birdies on his round, both on par fives.
- Junior Liam Burtis (Binghamton, N.Y. / Seton Catholic Central) fired off a two-over par round of 74 that featured three birdies.
- Sophomore Gehrig Shannon (Bernardsville, N.J. / Saint Peter's Prep) had a team-high four birdies in his opening round and also finished at 74 (+2). Burtis and Shannon are tied for fifth individually.
- Sophomore Juliano Nieto (Archbald, Pa. / Holy Cross) shot a 75 (+3) and posted a pair of birdies on par fives.
- Sophomore Jack Novis (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) carded a 78 (+6) and finished strong, going two-under in his last five holes.
Round two of the Landmark Championships is set to get underway tomorrow at 9:00 AM at Shawnee Country Club.
