SHAWNEE-ON-THE-DELAWARE, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's golf team rallied past Drew on the back nine and captured the program's second straight Landmark Conference title on Sunday afternoon at Shawnee Golf Course.
Scranton won the team title with a two-day score of 587 (+11) and edged out Drew who finished second with a 589 (+13). The Rangers' Elliott Parker won the individual title with a two-day score of 139 (-5).
This marks the Royals' second consecutive Landmark championship and the sixth conference title in program history.
Junior Danny Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) shot an even par 72 on Sunday and finished fourth with a two-day score of 145 (+1), while sophomore Juliano Nieto (Archbald, Pa./Holy Cross) carded a 72 of his own and tied for fifth overall at 147 (+3). Nieto shot a 35 (-1) on the back nine on Sunday including three birdies.
Sophomore Gehrig Shannon (Bernardsville, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) tied for seventh after shooting a 74 (+2) in both rounds for a two-day score of 148 (+4) and classmate Jack Novis (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) fired a 73 (+1) on Sunday to finish tied for 10th at 151 (+7).
Rounding things out for the Royals was junior Liam Burtis (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) in a tie for 16th place with a 79 (+7) on Sunday and a two-day score of 153 (+9).
Scranton will now compete in the NCAA Championships that will be held May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
