BOULDER CITY, NEV. – The University of Scranton men's golf team sits in 39th place in the team standings after the first round of the NCAA Championships on Tuesday at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City.
Scranton registered a team score of 313 (+25) in the opening round and Methodist currently leads the team standings with a 271 (-17).
Junior Danny Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) led the way for the Royals with a 74 (+2) including a one-under par 35 on the back nine, while sophomore Gehrig Shannon (Bernardsville, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) carded a 78 (+6). Fellow sophomore Jack Novis (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) added a 79 (+7).
Rounding things out for Scranton was junior Liam Burtis (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) with an 82 (+10) and sophomore Juliano Nieto (Archbald, Pa./Holy Cross) added an 83 (+11).
Tee time in Wednesday's second round is set for 10:45 a.m. eastern.
