Sophomore Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and junior Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) of The University of Scranton men's and women's lacrosse teams led their respective units to Landmark Conference Championships and have been named Co-Scranton Athletes of the week for the period ending May 5, 2024.
This marks the second career Scranton Athlete of the week honor for Holmes and the first for Lane.
Homes helped lead the Royals to their second consecutive Landmark Conference Title with his fifteen goals in the team's three playoff games. The Bridgewater, N.J. native scored a career-high seven goals in the Landmark semifinals against Susquehanna, the most goals scored by a Royal since Connor Kirkwood scored seven times in a game against Catholic in 2018.
Homes was named the tournament MVP by the conference for his efforts in the playoff run.
For Lane, she recorded seven goals with four assists in the team's dominant run to their second Landmark championship in as many years. Lane posted two goals and four assists in the 12-5 win against Catholic in the title game and was also named the tournament MVP by the Conference.
During the Landmark Conference Championship game against Catholic, Lane recorded her 200th career point on her third assist of the game, becoming just the seventh player in program history to reach that mark.
The men's lacrosse team will play John Carroll University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Weiss Field in Scranton. The women's lacrosse team will battle Lake Forest in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday at Denison in Granville, Ohio, at a time still to be announced.
