Claire Merrill of the University of Scranton women's soccer team have been named Landmark Conference Athletes of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.
This marks the first Landmark Athlete of the Week selection for both Van Arsdale and Merrill.
Van Arsdale posted a perfect week in the net for the Royals, as Scranton fought to a scoreless draw against NYU, then defeated Goucher 5-0. The Washington Crossing, Pa., native recorded four saves against NYU, improving her save percentage to .824 so far this season, and earning Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Merrill scored two goals and added an assist in the Royals' 5-0 victory over Goucher. The Hampton, New Jersey, native scored her first two career goals in the match, earning Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Merrill, Van Arsdale and the Royals are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 7, as they host Lycoming at 7:00 PM at Weiss Field.
