University of Scranton Women's Basketball - NCAA Sweet 16 Preview

SCRANTON, PA -- After taking down Framingham State University and Otterbein University in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament last weekend, The University of Scranton women's basketball team is now set to host the sectional rounds of the NCAA Tournament beginning Friday night at the John Long Center. 

Schedule 

  • Friday's first game features Johns Hopkins University (27-1) and Concordia-Moorhead (25-4) at 4:30 p.m. in the John Long Center. 

  • In the second game, Scranton (29-0) will host Bates College (26-3) at 7:00 p.m. 

  • The two winners from Friday's games will play on Saturday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the John Long Center. 

  • The winner of Saturday night's game will advance to the Final Four in Salem, Virginia with the semifinals scheduled for Thursday, March 19 and the championship game on Saturday, March 21. 

Tickets  

  • Tickets are available online here – fans are encouraged to purchase in advance. Cash will also be accepted at the door. 

  • $15 - Adults 

  • $10 - Seniors, Students with ID, Children 3-17 

  • The first 100 students will get in for free courtesy of The University of Scranton Alumni Association

  • The game will be streamed for free at NCAA.com. Viewers can also watch the game at NCAA Championships Pass on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and Android TV.  

Scranton 

  • Record: 29-0 

  • Scranton advanced to the Sweet 16 after defeating Framingham State Rams and Otterbein Cardinals. The Royals scored a program-record 104 points in their NCAA game against Framingham State and followed with an 82-43 win over Otterbein. 

  • Scranton ranks first in the country with 42.1 points against per game and a 39.6 scoring margin, and second behind NYU in offensive points per game at 81.7. 

Lady Royals to Watch 

  • Kaci Kranson – 2025-26 Landmark Conference Player of the Year; 18.5 PPG, 155 REB, .525FG%; Scored 16 points in the first round vs. Framingham State and 17 against Otterbein. 

  • Elizabeth Bennett - All-Landmark Conference Second Team; 12.4 PPG, .378 3PT%, 132 REB; Scored 13 points in the first round against Framingham State and 12 against Otterbein off the bench. 

  • Katie Gorski – All-Landmark Conference Second Team; 11.1 PPG, .516 FG%, 168 REB; 10 points, 9 rebounds in the first round against Framingham State and 14 points in the second round against Otterbein 

Scranton NCAA Tournament History 

  • Scranton is in the NCAA tournament for an NCAA record 38th time in program history and the 13th straight season – the longest active streak in Division III. 

  • Scranton has reached the Elite Eight in back-to-back seasons and has a 77-40 career record in the NCAA tournament. 

  • The Lady Royals are back in the Sweet 16 for the third straight season and the 28th time in program history. This also marks the second straight season that Scranton is hosting the round of sixteen. 

Bates College 

  • Record: 26-3 

  • Bates enters the Sweet 16 with the most wins in a single season in program history. The Bobcats earned an automatic bid into the tournament after winning their second NESCAC title in program history. 

  • Bates defeated the United States Merchant Marine Mariners, 71-57, in the first round and followed with an upset of No. 6 Smith Pioneers, rallying from a 16-point halftime deficit to win in overtime and advance to the Sweet 16. 

  • The Bates Bobcats average 68.1 points per game and allow 52.5 points per game. They rank 13th nationally with 4.9 blocks per game and 15th with a 1.15 assist-to-turnover ratio. 

Bobcats to Watch 

  • Elsa Daulerio – 13.8 PPG, 76 blocks; NESCAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year; Bates' all-time leading career shot blocker with 1,357 career points (sixth in program history). 

  • Sarah Hughes – 11.3 PPG, 5.7 RPG, team-high 74 assists; First Team All-NESCAC; scored 23 vs Hamilton, 21 vs Amherst, and 24 vs Bowdoin during the NESCAC Tournament run. 

  • Sophie Spolter – 9.2 PPG, team-high 33 steals; recorded back-to-back 20-point games in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. 

Bates NCAA Tournament History 

  • The Bobcats are making their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and their fourth in the past five seasons. 

  • This marks the fourth Sweet 16 appearance in program history for Bates women's basketball. The Bobcats have never reached the Final Four, so an advance would mark the deepest run in program history. 

Inside the Series 

  • This marks the second meeting between the two teams, who previously faced each other in the NCAA Tournament Second Round last year, when Scranton defeated Bates, 70-49.
