Following a dominant week in net, University of Scranton goalkeeper Carsen Kirchner has been named the Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office.
Kirchner played a key role in a 2-0 week for the Royals, anchoring a defense that allowed just 12 total goals across two road victories.
In Tuesday's 11-8 win over Sewanee, Kirchner delivered a career performance, recording 21 saves while posting an outstanding .724 save percentage. His effort helped Scranton withstand a heavy offensive push, as Sewanee outshot the Royals 55-33. Kirchner made nine saves in the opening half and added several key stops down the stretch to preserve the victory.
He followed that performance with an efficient outing in Saturday's 17-4 Landmark Conference-opening win over Goucher. Playing 45 minutes, Kirchner made nine saves while helping hold Goucher to just one first-half goal as Scranton built a commanding lead.
Across the two games, Kirchner totaled 30 saves and consistently came up with timely stops, providing a steady presence in goal while helping Scranton outscore its opponents 28-12.
Kirchner and the Royals will look to carry that momentum into their next contest on Saturday, March 25, when they continue Landmark Conference play against Lycoming College.
