University of Scranton Women's Basketball - NCAA First Round Preview

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team won its 11th straight Landmark Conference title with a dominating 82-42 victory over Elizabethtown College last weekend and is now set to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament beginning Friday, March 6 at the John Long Center.

Schedule

  • Friday's first game features Otterbein University (22-5) and Randolph-Macon College (21-7) at 6:00 p.m.
  • In the second game, Scranton (27-0) will host Framingham State (17-10) at 8:30 p.m.
  • The two winners from Friday's games will play on Saturday, March 7 at 8:30 p.m. in the John Long Center.
  • The winner of Saturday night's game will advance to the Sweet 16.

  • Tickets are available online here – fans are encouraged to purchase in advance. Cash will also be accepted at the door.
  • $15 - Adults
  • $10 - Seniors, Students with ID, Children 3-17
  • The first 100 students will get in for free courtesy of The University of Scranton Alumni Association

No. 4 Scranton

  • Record: 27-0
  • Scranton, ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division III Rankings, defeated Elizabethtown on Saturday to win its 11th consecutive Landmark Conference title dating back to the 2015-16 season.
  • Scranton ranks first in the country with 42.1 points against per game and a 38.7 scoring margin, and second behind NYU in offensive points per game at 80.9.
  • Head coach Ben O'Brien is in his fourth season at Scranton and holds a career record of 112-6. Following an unbeaten regular season in 2025-26, O'Brien and his staff were named Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year for the second time in the last four years. During O'Brien's tenure, the Lady Royals have won four consecutive Landmark Championships and advanced to the Elite Eight in both 2023-24 and 2024-25.

Scranton NCAA Tournament History

  • Scranton is in the NCAA tournament for an NCAA record 38th time in program history and the 13th straight season – the longest active streak in Division III.
  • Scranton has reached the Elite Eight in back-to-back seasons and has a 75-40 career record.

Framingham State

  • Framingham State won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference to earn the automatic bid, beating top seeded Bridgewater State to win its fourth
