The University of Scranton track and field teams competed against a wide range of competition from all three NCAA divisions over the weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell University, highlighted by a record-breaking performance in the distance events.
On Saturday, Kyrianna Nemitz delivered a historic performance in the invitational 5,000 meters, setting both a new Landmark Conference and program record with a time of 16:56.84 while finishing 25th in a highly competitive field. Emily Hopkins also competed in the event, placing 69th with a time of 17:35.06. On the men's side, Brayden Clarke turned in a strong showing in the unseeded 5,000 meters, finishing eighth in 15:18.94.
Sunday saw a solid day for the Royals in sprint and relay events. The 4x100-meter relay team of Samantha Solar, Sam Sharrow, Kaia Grantham, and Jocelyn Smith placed fifth overall with a time of 47.94. Individually in the 100 meters, Sharrow led the group with a ninth-place finish in 12.20, followed by Smith (33rd, 12.50), Grantham (48th, 12.71), and Solar (59th, 12.97).
In the 400 meters, Tasia Miniotis placed 46th with a time of 1:00.20. The 4x400-meter relay team of Miniotis, Samantha Sharrow, Jocelyn Smith, and Kathryn Hunt capped the weekend with a sixth-place finish, clocking in at 3:57.21.
