University of Scranton junior Kyrianna Nemitz has been named Peggy's Scranton Athlete of the Week after delivering a historic, record-breaking performance at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
Competing in the invitational 5,000 meters against elite competition from all three NCAA divisions, Nemitz set both a new program and Landmark Conference record with a time of 16:56.84. With the performance, she became the first runner in program history to break the 17-minute barrier in the event.
Nemitz placed 25th overall in a nationally competitive field featuring top Division I, II, and III athletes, further highlighting the significance of her record-setting run on one of the biggest stages of the outdoor season.
Her performance not only reset the standard for Scranton and the Landmark Conference, but also reinforced her status as one of the premier distance runners in the region. Nemitz continues to elevate the program's distance legacy with each competition, establishing herself among the most accomplished runners in school history.
