Women's Track and Field Shines at DeSales Invitational with Multiple Program Records and Event Wins

The University of Scranton women's track and field team turned in a strong showing on Saturday at the DeSales Invitational, highlighted by multiple event victories and a trio of program-record performances.

Leading the way in the field events, Elena Funk claimed first place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.51 meters, pacing a solid day for the Royals' jumpers. Lily Kelleher added a runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing 2.74 meters.

Scranton's throwers delivered an exceptional performance, accounting for three event titles and multiple record-breaking efforts. Afua Apau captured the shot put title while breaking her own program record with a mark of 12.09 meters. Peyton Fox continued her standout season with a pair of record-breaking performances, winning the hammer throw with a distance of 49.36 meters and placing second in the discus with a mark of 38.75 meters—both surpassing her previous program bests. Victoria Turner also contributed in the throws, finishing third in the javelin with a toss of 29.82 meters.

On the track, the Royals saw several strong finishes across sprint and distance events. Madeline Samar earned a second-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 13.62, while Isabella Santos added a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.03) to go along with her third-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (17.19). Shannon Pulis led the distance group with a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 20:45.50, and Emma DiLemme placed third in the 1,500 meters (5:15.93).

Scranton also captured a relay victory, as the 4x400-meter relay team of Isabella Delgado, Ella Wiskidensky, Kathryn Hunt, and Rebekah Setti raced to a first-place finish to cap the day.
