Scranton Men's Basketball Announces 2026-27 Schedule, Highlighted by Trip to Inaugural DIII Champions Classic

The University of Scranton men's basketball team has announced its 2026-27 schedule, a slate headlined by a trip to the inaugural DIII Champions Classic in Henrico, Va., where the two-time national champion Royals will face fellow former NCAA Division III National Champions over two days of showcase competition.

Season Opens with Hilton Scranton Invitational

The Royals tip off the season at home hosting the Hilton Scranton Invitational, opening on Friday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 PM against Widener University. The Royals continue action on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 4:00 PM with a marquee matchup against defending NCAA Division III National Champion University of Mary Washington, fresh off a 75-73 title-game win over Emory University last April.

Scranton returns home on Saturday, Nov. 14 (3:00 PM) to host Hartwick College before opening Landmark Conference play on the road, visiting Drew University on Wednesday, Nov. 18 (7:00 PM) and Goucher College on Saturday, Nov. 21 (4:00 PM).

December begins with back-to-back home conference games, hosting Moravian University on Wednesday, Dec. 2 (7:00 PM) and Juniata College on Saturday, Dec. 5 (4:00 PM), followed by a non-conference home game against King's College on Sunday, Dec. 13 (3:00 PM).

Royals Head to Inaugural DIII Champions Classic

Scranton will then travel to the Henrico Sports & Events Center for the first-ever DIII Champions Classic, a two-day showcase bringing together four programs with a combined 98 NCAA Tournament appearances, 34 Sweet 16 runs, 12 Final Four berths and five national titles. The Royals — national champions in 1976 and 1983 — will face:

  • Christopher Newport University (2023 National Champion) — Monday, Dec. 28 at 5:00 PM
  • Randolph-Macon College (2022 National Champion) — Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 PM

Babson College, the 2017 National Champion, rounds out the four-team field.

Additional event details, including ticket information and media credentialing, will be announced by Henrico Sports & Entertainment. 

January and February

Scranton opens January with a non-conference home game against Centenary University on Saturday, Jan. 2 (3:00 PM). Landmark Conference play resumes with a home game against Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, Jan. 6 (7:00 PM).

The Royals then face Susquehanna University at the historic Palestra in Philadelphia on Sunday, Jan. 10 (7:30 PM), followed by road games at Lycoming College (Wed., Jan. 13, 7:00 PM) and Catholic University (Sat., Jan. 16, 4:00 PM), then home games against Wilkes University (Wed., Jan. 20, 8:00 PM), Goucher College (Sat., Jan. 23, 4:00 PM) and Drew University (Wed., Jan. 27, 7:00 PM).

The regular season closes with: at Juniata College (Sat., Jan. 30, 4:00 PM), at Moravian University (Wed., Feb. 3, 7:00 PM), at Elizabethtown College (Sat., Feb. 6, 4:00 PM), home against Lycoming College (Wed., Feb. 10, 7:00 PM), at Susquehanna University (Sat., Feb. 13, 4:00 PM), at Wilkes University (Wed., Feb. 17, 8:00 PM) and home against Catholic University (Sat., Feb. 20, 4:00 PM).

The Landmark Conference Playoffs follow: First Round on Tuesday, Feb. 23, Semifinals on Thursday, Feb. 25, and the Championship on Saturday, Feb. 27 (times and opponents TBA).
