The University of Scranton field hockey team suffered its first loss of the 2026 season on Saturday, falling 3-2 to York College at Weiss Field in Scranton.

How it Happened

• York got on the board first midway through the opening quarter when Kelbie Linebaugh fired a shot into the back of the cage to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
• The Royals evened the score 8:17 into the second quarter. After Scranton was fouled inside the circle, Maggie Keys converted the ensuing penalty stroke to make it 1-1.
• York came out strong to start the second half, scoring twice in the first six minutes to take a 3-1 lead.
• Trailing by two goals entering the fourth quarter, Scranton responded with a strong start to the final period. On the Royals' second penalty corner of the quarter, Maddie Slavin connected with Keys, who drilled a shot into the cage to pull Scranton within one.
• The Royals continued to pressure the York defense throughout the fourth quarter, tallying five shots in the final five minutes. The Spartans, however, defended two late penalty corners, turning away strong shots from freshman Lucy Sedgewick and Keys to hold on for the 3-2 win.
