WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—The University of Scranton wrestling team
opened its 2012-2013 season with an 11th-place finish at the
Monarch Invitational on the campus of King’s College
Saturday.
Cortland St. won the team title with 147 points, followed by
Wilkes University (137), York College of Pennsylvania (134.5),
Oneonta St. (77.5), and Roger Williams (67.5).
Sophomores Kevin Guenther (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley
Regional) and Shawn Flesche (Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley
Regional) and freshman Sal Montuori (Clark, NJ/Arthur Johnson
Regional) each went 2-2 in their respective weight classes
to lead Scranton.
Guenther posted wins over Will Cauffman of Gettysburg, 6-2, and
Ben Anderson of Roger Williams, 3-1, at 149 and Flesche recorded
victories over Marlon Duque of Wilkes, 4-2, and Aaron Transue of
Wilkes by major decision, 9-1, at 174. In his first college
event, Montuori downed Nick Diunizio of Gettysburg, 6-0, and picked
up another victory by a medical forfeit in the 285-pound weight
class.
