Box Score (Scranton-Pitt-Bradford)
SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton volleyball team
downed Keystone College, 3-0, and Pitt-Bradford, 3-1, Saturday at
the Long Center to win the Scranton Invitational for the first time
since 2008 and for the third time since 1998.
And once again, it turned out to be sophomore outside hitter
Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas
Institute) who provided much of the heroics. She had
20 kills and 21 digs—her third ‘double-double’ of
the tournament and her fifth of the season—in the
tournament-clinching victory over 2010 champion Pitt-Bradford as
the Royals remained undefeated and improved to 9-0 on the
season.
For her efforts, Crilly was named the tournament’s most
valuable player (MVP). Joining her as all-tournament
selections from Scranton were senior outside hitter Jenell McFadden (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy
Academy), who had 15 kills and 11 digs against
Pitt-Bradford, and senior setter Juli
Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), who had 25
assists today to bring her career total to 1673, fifth on the
Royals’ all-time list.
Scranton, which lost only one set all weekend and only two in nine
matches today, received five kills apiece from freshman Lizzy Zimmermann (Livingston, NJ/Livingston),
junior Kelly
Nolan (Pearl River, NY/Albertus Magnus), and Crilly in
this morning’s win over Keystone.
Woods and senior setter Emily
Keim (Bethelehem, Pa./Liberty) combined for 44 of the
team’s 48 assists in the win over Pitt-Bradford.
Senior libero Marissa Every (East Norriton, Pa./Mt. St.
Joseph) finished with 16 digs total to bring her career
total to 1642. She is now 31 shy of surpassing Jacqueline
Pisano (1672, 2005-2008) as the Royals’ all-time leader.
Scranton will return to action this Tuesday, September 11, against
Oneonta State University beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Long
Center.
Also earning all-tournament honors today were Lauren Hogue of
Pitt-Bradford, Rachel Tollett of Marywood University, and Casey
Bohan of Wilkes University.
