NEW YORK CITY—The University of Scranton wrestling team
rolled to a 51-0 victory over Yeshiva University Wednesday
evening.
The Royals, now 3-8, picked up pins by sophomore Shawn Flesche (Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley
Regional) at 165 and by junior Joseph Weitemeyer (Damsite, NY/Smithtown West)
and a technical fall by Ryan Giovnetti (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) at
149.
Flesche improved to 12-6 on the season by pinning Michael Gabay at
1:51 of the first period, while Weitemeyer earned his fifth win of
the year and the ninth of his career by pinning Chaim Metzger 46
seconds into the first period. Giovanetti scored a 16-0
technical fall over Adir Feifel.
Senior Josh
Javitz (Dickson City, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) picked
up his fourth win with a 9-3 decision over Benji Basseri at 133 and
sophomore Pierce Keane (Stewart Manor, NY/Chaminade)
followed with a 10-5 decision over Josh Eisenberg at 141, which
improved his record to 4-10. In the 157 pound weight class,
junior Robert Leavy (Bronx, NY/Iona Preparatory)
scored a 9-0 major decision over Shmuel Lamm. Leavy is now
7-14 on the year.
The Royals will return to action on Sunday, February 10, against
the College of Mt. St. Vincent at the Long Center beginning at
12:00 noon.
