NEW YORK CITY—Junior Chris Silakoski (Trenton, NJ/Notre Dame)
picked up two wins in the 197-pound weight class to lead The
University of Scranton wrestling team Saturday at the New York
University Quad Meet.
The Royals, however, dropped to 2-6 on the season by losing
matches to Hunter College, 41-3, New York University, 40-4, and
Southern Maine, 27-22.
Silakoski, now 6-4 this year and 34-33 in his career, picked up
the Royals’ lone win against Hunter College, pulling off a
7-2 decision against Alan Djokic. Against
Southern Maine, Silakoski downed Sean Fagan, 5-3.
Sophomore Shawn Flesche (Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley
Regional) recorded a 16-3 major decision against Sam
Friedfeld in the 165-pound weight class in the match against New
York University.
Also picking up wins against Southern Maine beside Silakoski were
sophomore Pierce Keane (North Bellemore, NY/St.
Anthony’s), who posted a 9-1 major decision over
Josh Robbins at 141; junior Ryan Giovanetti (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), who
pinned Joseph Page at the 2:18 mark of the first period at 149;
junior Joseph Weitemeyer (Damsite, NY/Smithtown
West), who recorded a 6-0 decision over Aaron Weiss at
174; and senior Stephen Kaiser (Stewart Manor, NY/Chamindade),
who picked up a win at 197 by a medical forfeit. Giovanetti
also picked up an exhibition win against RJ Paquette of Hunter
College, 9-2.
In a pair of exhibition matches, Royal freshman Brian
Walsh (Chicago, Ill/St. Ignatius Preparatory) defeated
R.J. Paquette of Hunter College, 9-2, and pinned Dan Maddock of
Hunter College at the 3:40 mark of the second period.
The Royals will return to action on Tuesday, January 15, against
the Monarchs of King’s College at the Scandlon Gymnasium in
Wilkes-Barre beginning at 7:00 p.m.
