SCRANTON, Pa.—Junior attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional),
senior midfielder Jilliana DePaolera (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon),
and sophomore midfielderEmily
Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) combined for eight
goals during an 11-0 spurt to lead The University of Scranton to a
15-5 victory over Elmira College in non-conference action Tuesday
evening at Fitzpatrick Field.
Sullivan finished with a season-high five goals, DePaolera added
three goals and two assists, and Goss chipped in three goals as the
Royals snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 7-5.
Scranton, which held a 31-16 advantage in shots and a 14-8 margin
in draw controls, also received two goals and two assists from
senior attacker Deanna Giorno (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks
South), a goal and three assists from senior attacker Kaitlin
Lazorko (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy), and a goal from
junior midfielder Mariah Guy (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean
Township).
Elmira, now 6-6, received three goals from sophomore midfielder
Ashton Hogan (Shelburne, Ontario/Orangville Northmen), a goal and
an assist from sophomore attacker Gretchen Smith (Corning,
NY/Corning), and a goal from sophomore attacker Natalie Robinson
(Okotoks, AB/Foothills Composite).
The Soaring Eagles did score three straight goals to open the
second half after the Royals built up an 11-1 halftime lead, but
Scranton quickly erased that momentum, as Sullivan and DePaolera
scored within a two-minute span of each other to extend the lead
back up to nine, 13-4, with 12 minutes remaining.
Senior goalkeeper Kathleen Smart (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood)
finished with four saves in nearly 51 minutes of action to pick up
her 27th career victory.
With two goals and two assists tonight, Giorno moved into sixth
place on the Royals’ all-time scoring list with 160 total
points (92 goals, 68 assists), while Sullivan’s five goals
moved her into fifth place on the Scranton all-time list for most
goals (116). In addition, Goss moves into 20th place on the
Royals’ all-time scoring list with 93 total points (86 goals,
7 assists).
The Royals will take the weekend off before preparing for their
final two games of the regular season, at Oneonta State on Tuesday,
April 23, before hosting Drew University in the Landmark Conference
action on Saturday, April 27, at 1:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick
Field.
