SCRANTON, Pa.--Junior outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
turned in an MVP performance for The University of Scranton
volleyball team Sunday afternoon at the Scranton Invitational.
She recorded with a match-high 21 kills and 12 digs in the
Royals’ 3-1 loss to Lycoming College, after registering five
kills and four digs in a 3-0 win over Mt. Aloysius College earlier
in the day. Crilly finished with 31 kills, 37 digs, eight
service aces, and seven total blocks as Scranton ended tournament
play with a 2-2 mark.
In the win over Mt. Aloysius, the Royals hit .270, including .520
in the third and deciding set. Sophomore middle hitter
Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart
Academy) led Scranton with six kills, freshman setter
Bailey Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven) had 16 assists and nine digs, and senior Kelly Johnson (Pearl River, NY/Albertus
Magnus) contributed six total blocks.
Joining Crilly on the all-tournament team was freshman teammate
Victoria Reilly (Bay Shore, NY/Bay
Shore), who finished with 47 digs in four matches,
including 11 against Lycoming and eight against Mt. Aloysius
today.
John Carroll University, from Cleveland, Ohio, won two more
matches today to claim the team title with a perfect 4-0
record. The Blue Streaks did not drop a set all weekend long
and turned back The Sage Colleges and Mt. Aloysius today after
downing Keystone College and Scranton yesterday.
Also named to the all-tournament team were Lyndsey Hall of Mt.
Aloysius, Bethany Richardson of Lycoming, Helen Putriment of The
Sages Colleges, and the John Carroll trio of Sara Kaminski, Kit
O’Shaughnessy, and Sarah Orlandi.
With 26 kills today, Crilly moves into 14th place on the
Royals’ all-time list with 843.
The Royals will return to action next Friday, September 6, against
Fredonia State in the opening round of the Golden Flyer
Invitational at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.
