SCRANTON, Pa.—A historic night for junior Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
of The University of Scranton volleyball team ended on a sour note
Wednesday evening at the Long Center.
Crilly became the eighth player in Royals’ history to record
1000 kills in a career, but it wasn’t enough to keep
Muhlenberg College from rolling to a 3-0 victory. Crilly
finished with six kills—giving her 1005 for her
career—and eight digs as Scranton fell to 5-12 on the
season.
Freshman outside hitter Allison Glass (Rockville Centre, NY/South
Side) led the Mules, now 7-5, with 12 kills and 10 digs and
Muhlenberg, as a team, dominated the net, finishing with 12 total
blocks, including five by sophomore Sarah Weyhmuller (Media,
Pa./Cardinal O’Hara). The Mules also received a
combined 32 of their 38 assists from freshman Ali Mayer (Phoenix,
Ariz./Paradise Valley) and junior Nikki Dickson (Dallas,
Texas/South Fayette-Pa.).
Scranton, which also received six blocks, four service aces, and
two blocks from sophomore middle hitter Rachael Cisto (Oxford, Conn./Sacred Heart
Academy) and 20 assists and two service aces from freshman
Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg
Memorial), got out the gates quickly in the first set,
bolting out to a 6-2 lead. The Mules, however, hit .533 to
come storming back en route to a 25-15 victory.
Overall, the Mules hit a .385, controlled the net with their
blocking ability, and kept the Royals off-balance throughout the
entire match.
Scranton returns to action this Friday at the Christopher Newport
Invitational in Newport News, Virginia. The Royals meet
Eastern University at 4:00 p.m. and Wisconsin-Whitewater at 6:00
p.m.
