Quick Start Propels Royals Past Elizabethtown in Landmark Conference Action Saturday At Fitzpatrick Field

SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s lacrosse team bolted out to a 13-1 halftime lead en route to a 16-6 victory over Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.

Junior midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) led the Royals with four goals—all in the first half—and freshman midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) chipped in three goals and two assists as Scranton snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Senior attacker Erin Green (Merrick, NY/Sandford Calhoun) contributed two goals and an assists and sophomore midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, NY/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) added two goals for the Royals, who held a 34-11 advantage in shots and an 18-7 margin in draw controls.  

Freshman midfielder Addie Stang (Dover, Del./Polytech) led the Blue Jays, now 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the Landmark, with two goals and an assist, sophomore midfielder Dana Robidoux (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionvilkle) finished with two goals, and freshman goalkeeper Beata Palosz (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) made a game-high eight saves.

The Royals also received a goal apiece from freshman midfielders Meaghan Ginty (Mineola, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) and Nikole Sullivan (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee), freshman attackers Alexandra Alessi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) and Alyssa Farrell (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), and senior attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional).

With four goals today, Goss moved into sixth place on the Royals’ all-time list with 116 and is now 12th in total points with 124 (116 goals, 8 assists).

All three Scranton goalkeepers saw action today.  Junior Emily Towey (Abington, Pa./Abington) started and played the entire first half before giving way to freshmen Grace Campbell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and Marne Rossetti (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills), each of whom was credited with a save.

Defensively, senior tri-captain Mary Armstrong (Endwell, NY/Seton Catholic) caused two turnovers and scooped up three ground balls and freshman Alexa Proffit (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) had two ground balls.  As a team, the Royals held a 22-16 advantage in ground balls.

Scranton will return to action this Wednesday, April 2, against the Red Hawks of Montclair State University at 7:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
