MADISON, N.J. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team suffered its first Landmark Conference loss of the season, falling to Drew University, 15-12, on Wednesday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.
The Royals (5-7, 3-1 Landmark) had a 9-8 lead at halftime, but managed just three second-half goals. Drew (8-4, 3-2 Landmark) pulled away from a 12-12 tie by scoring the game's final three goals over the last 11:47 of the second half.
Scranton is now in second place in the Landmark Conference standings with two conference games remaining. The Royals can clinch a playoff spot with a win in one of those games.
Senior midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) led Scranton with four goals, all in a back-and-forth first half that saw six ties and four lead changes. Goss now has 30 goals this season and 165 career goals, fourth-most in Scranton history.
Drew scored the first two goals of the second half to take a 10-9 lead, but the Royals knotted the score at 10 with a goal by freshman midfielder Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area). The Rangers responded with two straight goals for a 12-10 lead, but Scranton came back with goals by freshman attacker Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and junior midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), both on free position shots.
But Drew clamped down over the final 13 minutes to hold Scranton scoreless the rest of the way while scoring the final three goals.
Siepietowski finished with two goals and an assist, and Allen and freshman midfielder Lindsey Tattory (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre Dame) each had two goals for Scranton. Freshman midfielder Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) also had a goal.
The Royals finished the game with a 41-27 advantage in shots and 21-8 in draw controls.
Scranton is back in action on Saturday, April 18, when the Royals visit Elizabethtown for a Landmark Conference matchup at noon in Elizabethtown, Pa.
