Junior midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) scored the 100th goal of her career as part of a three-goal, three-assist performance as The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team earned an important Landmark Conference victory by defeating Drew, 12-9, on Wednesday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.
The win moves the Royals (8-5, 3-1 Landmark) into a tie for second place with two games remaining. The top four teams earn a berth in the Landmark Conference playoffs, and the Royals can secure a spot with a win in either of the final two games.
Kerr scored her milestone goal in impressive fashion, slipping a low shot past the goalkeeper just before the halftime horn after a restart with two seconds remaining. It was her third goal of the first half and gave the Royals a 7-4 edge at the break. She turned distributor in the second half, assisting on back-to-back goals midway through the half as Scranton took an 11-7 lead with 13:14 left.
With the milestone goal, Kerr becomes the 12th player in Scranton women's lacrosse history to reach 100 career goals. She now has 100 goals and 50 assists for 150 career points, 12th-most in school history. This season, she has a career-high 41 goals and has tied her career high with 19 assists for 60 points, also a career high.
Scranton also received three goals and an assist from freshman attacker Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), and two goals each from senior midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) and freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Murphy (Somers, N.Y./North Salem).
Sophomore midfielder Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) and freshman midfielder Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) each had a goal, and senior midfielder Fiona Keelan (New Rochelle, N.Y./Mamaroneck) added an assist.
Junior goalkeeper Marne Rossetti (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) had a strong game in the cage, making 10 saves, including six in the second half. Freshman defender Claire Eberle (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) also had a strong game on defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls, and senior defender Bridget Gallaher (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) had four ground balls.
Scranton overcame 25 turnovers by completing 21 of 25 clears and holding a 12-10 edge in clears. Drew (5-10, 2-3 Landmark) had a narrow 27-23 edge in shots.
The Royals will be back in action on Saturday when they celebrate Senior Day before hosting Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference game at 1 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
