WASHINGTON, D.C. – A late first-half surge by Catholic was too much for The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team to overcome as the Royals fell to the Cardinals, 19-12, in the Landmark Conference championship on Saturday at Cardinals' stadium.

Catholic (11-7) used a 5-1 run to end the first half to turn a two-goal lead into a 10-4 edge at the break en route to the program's second straight Landmark Conference title and eighth in nine years. Scranton (11-7) closed the gap to four on two occasions in the second half, but could get no closer.

Sophomore attacker Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) led the Royals with four goals on four shots, giving her nine in two playoff games after scoring just four in the entire regular season. Senior midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), junior attacker Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) and freshman midfielder Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) added two goals each.

Scranton, which was making its first Landmark Conference championship appearance, also received a goal each from sophomore midfielder Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and freshman attacker Elena Gallo (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's).

The Royals, who have not won a conference championship of any kind since back-to-back Middle Atlantic Conference titles in 2003 and 2004, were outshot 35-27 in the game and could not overcome 24 turnovers.

Allen and fellow senior midfielder Fiona Keelan (New Rochelle, N.Y./Mamaroneck) led Scranton with four ground balls each. Allen also had a team-high four caused turnovers while sophomore midfielder Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) had three. Angelo led the Royals in draw controls with seven.

Allen finishes her career with 83 goals, 38 assists, 121 points, 127 ground balls and 77 caused turnovers. She ranks eighth in caused turnovers, 13th in assists, 14th in points and ground balls and tied for 17th in goals on the school's all-time career lists. This season, she set career highs in goals (41), points (51), ground balls (43) and caused turnovers (27).

Scranton finishes the season with 11 victories, matching the program's highest win total in the past 11 years. The Royals also won 11 games in both 2006 and 2012.
