TOWSON, Md. -- The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team opened a 6-0 lead in the first 11 minutes of regulation and never looked back, as the Royals rolled to a 20-2 victory at Goucher on Saturday in the Landmark Conference opener for both schools.
With the win, Scranton improved to 6-1 overall on the year, 1-0 in the Landmark Conference. Goucher fell to 1-9 and 0-1 in the Landmark with the defeat.
To open the contest, Scranton scored six unanswered goals, two of which came from senior Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic).
Goucher was able to finally get on the board with 16 minutes left in the half, but the Royals ended the first half on a tear, scoring eight unanswered goals to open an insurmountable 14-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, it was academic, as Scranton outscored Goucher, 6-1, in the period to coast to an 18-goal victory to open Landmark Conference play.
On the offensive end in the game, 11 different Royals scored goals in the contest, led once again by Kerr who finished with four goals. For the year, Kerr has now scored a team-best 26 goals.
Elsewhere, sophomore Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg) tallied a hat trick with three goals and one assist, while sophomore Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), freshman Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), and junior's Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Acad.) and Kailyn Angelo (West Cheser, Pa./Villa Maria Acad.) all scored two goals, apiece.
Rounding out the scoring sheet for Scranton were sophomore's Kaitlyn Murphy (Somers, N.Y./North Salem), Jackie Riefenhauser (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers), along with freshman Victoria Pardi (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and junior Colleen O'Rourke (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Acad.).
Loomie and Angelo also added two assists, apiece, in the victory, as well.
Overall, Scranton ended the match outshooting Goucher by a 36-10 margin, along with a 24-5 edge on ground balls. Kerr ended the match with six ground balls, while Olert posted five draw controls to round out the top performances on the day for the Royals.
The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action next Saturday, hosting Catholic in a Landmark Conference match at Fitzpatrick Field. Things are slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
