JESSUP, Pa. -- The University of Scranton softball team extended their winning streak out to four games on Wednesday, as the Royals swept a doubleheader against Hunter in non-conference play at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex, taking game one, 7-0, and game two, 12-4, in five innings.

With the game two win, Scranton head coach Mia Collarini Wascura won her 99th career game, making her the winningest coach in program history. Collarini Wascura, who is now 99-87 in her five-plus seasons as head coach, passed Gary Wooder, Ph.D. (1980-82, 1984-86) as the winningest coach in Royals program history with the two victories on the day.

In the first game of the afternoon against Hunter (who is now 7-7 overall), the Royals (now 12-9 with the DH sweep) did all their damage in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs to take an insurmountable 7-0 lead into the later innings of the contest.

In that frame, freshman Casey DeSarno (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) had an RBI double, which was followed up by an RBI single by junior Morgan Rentzheimer (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.

Senior Angelica Titor (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) then added an RBI single, which was followed up by a two-RBI triple by sophomore Molly Hampsey (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) that gave Scranton a 6-0 lead. The final run of the inning was scored by Titor on a fielder's choice, putting Scranton up by seven.

That was more than enough run support for the Royals pitching staff, as starter Rentzheimer moved to 7-4 overall after tossing five innings of shutout softball, allowing just five hits, while striking out five.

Overall, DeSarno (2-for-3) Rentzheimer (2-for-3) and Titor (2-for-2) all had multiple hit games in the game one victory.

In game two, Scranton put away Hunter early in the contest, opening up a 6-0 lead in the first inning, then tacking on three runs in both the second and third innings to go up 12 after three full.

Hunter was able to score four runs in the top of the fifth (an inning they entered down, 12-0), but it wasn't enough to keep the game going, as the Royals won it in five with an eight-run victory.

Overall, senior Kaitlin O'Sullivan (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) was 2-for-2 with three RBI in game two, while fellow senior Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan) was also 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored, and a triple. Senior Christine Kiefer (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) also had a triple in the victory, as well.

In the circle, senior Emily Simon (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) started and earned the victory after tossing two innings of shutout, no-hit softball. With the win, Simon moved to 2-3 overall for the year.

The University of Scranton softball team returns to action on Thursday, taking on Landmark Conference foe Catholic in a doubleheader at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m.
