WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The University of Scranton split a pair of dual meets on Saturday at the Cross County Wrestling Duals hosted by Wilkes University.  The Royals (11-8) opened the day with a 30-19 victory over King's before falling to the host Colonels 28-10.

Meet vs. King's

In Saturday's first meet against King's, Scranton received pins from junior T.J. Conlon (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch), senior Kevin Merle (Stroudsburg, Pa./Belvidere), and senior Dan D'Agostini (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) to key their win over the Monarchs (1-20).

King's held a 10-6 advantage after the first three weight classes before Conlon notched a pin at the 6:25 mark of the 149 pound bout.

The Monarchs won by a decision at 157 pounds before Merle pinned his opponent at 165 pounds just 1:20 into the contest.  Merle's pin was his 11th of the season and 30th of his career, moving him into sole possession of second place on Scranton's all-time pins list while he is now tied for the sixth most falls in a season in program history.

King's picked up decisions at 174 pounds and 184 pounds before D'Agostini notched his seventh pin of the season and 20th of his career at the 6:28 mark of the 197 pound bout.  The senior is now tied for eighth all-time in Scranton history for career pins.

The Royals finished out the meet with a forfeit win at 285 pounds.

In Saturday's nightcap against Wilkes (20-4), freshman Matthew Murawski (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley – Old Tappan) gave Scranton the lead with a win in the opening match, but the Colonels won the next seven bouts to take control of the contest before the Royals won the final two weight classes.

Murawski posted a 10-4 win at 125 pounds to put Scranton in front, 3-0, but Wilkes countered with four major decisions, two decisions, and one injury default to claim a 28-3 advantage.

D'Agostini stopped the run by Wilkes with his second win of the day, an 8-5 decision at 197 pounds.

Junior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) closed out the contest with an 11-2 major decision at 285 pounds.
