SCRANTON, Pa. – Head coach Al Russomano registered his 100th career dual meet win and The University of Scranton wrestling team went unbeaten at the Electric City Duals on Sunday inside the John Long Center in Scranton.
The Royals went 4-0 on the day with victories over Keystone (50-3), Oneonta (31-10), Lackawanna (55-0) and Alfred State (24-19).
Senior Brandon Judge (Eynon, Pa./Valley View) registered three pinfall victories on the day and was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler by each of the coaches at the meet.
Russomano now sits at 101 career dual meet victories at The University following the program's second consecutive team title at the Electric City Duals.
The closest match of the day for the Royals came in the 24-19 win over Alfred State. Things were deadlocked at 15 apiece after the 165 pound match, but Scranton responded with a 4-3 victory for graduate student William Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) at 174, a 7-5 decision for senior Justin Weimer (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) at 184 pounds and a major decision (13-5) from fellow senior Hunter Marhan (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) to complete the win.
In the first match of the day against Keystone, Scranton started things off with three consecutive pins from freshman Matthew DiGennaro (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) at 125 pounds, senior Matthew Murawski (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley - Old Tappan) at 133 pounds and junior Anthony Clarizio (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) at 141 pounds to cruise to the victory.
The Royals followed that up by racing out to a 21-0 lead against the Red Dragons of Oneonta and rolled to the 31-10 win. Oneonta got on the board at 165, but graduate student Laughlin recorded a major decision (10-1) victory to make it a 25-3 edge for Scranton at the time and Judge and sophomore Daniel Kosinski (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) both notched pinfall victories in the match.
In the match versus Lackawanna, Marhan provided the highlight at 197 pounds with a pinfall victory in just 28 seconds.
Russomano and the Royals return to the mat for a dual meet at Muhlenberg on Wednesday night beginning at 7 p.m.
