Laughlin Wins 174 Pound Bracket to Lead Wrestling at Penn Tech Invitational

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Graduate student William Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) won the 174 pound weight class bracket to lead the efforts for The University of Scranton wrestling team at the Penn Tech Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Liberty Arena in Williamsport.

Laughlin got things rolling with a pin fall in the first round in just 1:15 before taking a major decision (10-2) over TCNJ's Nick Golden to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinal match, he rolled past Cooper Fleming of Castleton in an 11-4 decision before taking down Ray Martin of Gettysburg with a 2-0 decision in the finals.

The Royals finished fifth in the team standings on the day with 69.5 points as Castleton was the runaway winner with 223.5 points.

Elsewhere for Scranton, sophomore Daniel Kosinski (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) finished second at 157 as he picked up a pair of pinfall victories and a major decision to get to the finals where he fell to Castleton's Logan Dubuque.

Kosinski pinned both Jacob Caricato of Castleton and Hunter O'Connor of Lycoming to reach the semis where he dropped a close

Junior Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) added a third place in the 165 pound bracket as he pinned Nick Gonzalez of ETown in the round of 16 before holding on for a 4-2 decision over Nick Sacco from TCNJ in the quarterfinal match to reach the semis. Oakes would drop a close 3-1 decision to CU's Michael Angers in the semifinal.

The University of Scranton wrestling team will take Thanksgiving Week off from competition before returning to the mat for the Blue Jay Classic that will be hosted by Elizabethtown on Saturday, Dec. 4 beginning at 9:30 a.m.
