ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Graduate student William Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) won his weight class (174 pounds) to lead the way, as The University of Scranton wrestling team finished seventh at the 2021 Blue Jay Classic at Elizabethtown on Saturday.

On the day, the Royals finished with 46.5 points to place seventh overall. Winning the team event was Wilkes with 116 total points.

Overall, Laughlin captured four matches to take the 174-pound title, knocking off John Devito from Wilkes, 9-8, in a thriller in the title match.

To reach the finals, Laughlin first had a major 10-0 win over Shane Lallkissoon of New Jersey City, then rolled to a 7-1 victory against Jacob Sweitzer of Davis & Elkins. He then reached the finals after gutting out a 3-0 win over Traisach Roland of ETown.
