Wrestling Falls to Wilkes in Dual Meet

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The University of Scranton wrestling team returned to the mat for the first time since Jan. 15, but fell to the Wilkes Colonels by a score of 37-10 in dual meet action on Sunday afternoon at the Marts Center in Wilkes-Barre.

Scranton falls to 7-5 in duals on the year with the setback, while Wilkes improves to 9-4.

The Colonels were able to grab an early lead with a pair of pin falls before senior Brandon Judge (Eynon, Pa./Valley View) got the Royals on the board at 141 pounds with a major decision (13-4) victory over Josef Lundin. Elsewhere for Scranton, junior Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) and graduate student William Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) both picked up wins in the match.

At 165 pounds, Oakes topped Wilkes' James Geiger with a 3-1 decision and Laughlin followed at 174 pounds with a 5-1 decision against John DeVito. With his win at 174, Laughlin improves to an impressive 20-3 on the season.

The Royals will close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 12 as they return home to host King's, Keystone and Bergen College in quad meet with action in the John Long Center getting underway at 1 p.m. Prior to the meet, the wrestling program will honor the 2021-22 senior class.
