Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. -- The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team posted a commanding second quarter to secure a dominating 18-9 win over Elizabethtown College in its Landmark Conference Opener on Saturday evening at Weiss Field.
The Royals (4-4) have now won three consecutive games, including their first home win of the season tonight.
Scranton led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter as sophomore midfielder Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) scored the games' opening goal for the Royals in the first two minutes of play. Freshman attacker Allie Halfpenny (Mount Laurel, N.J. / Lenape) continued the tremendous start to her career at Scranton with two late goals in the first quarter to break the deadlock.
The Royals blanked the Blue Jays in the second period and put up six on the board to take a 10-2 lead into halftime. Sophomore attacker Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y. / Lynbrook) took control for Scranton in the second quarter with a hat trick and one assist. Senior midfielder Halle Conklin (Point Lookout, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial), freshman attacker Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy), and sophomore attacker Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) each added goals in the second quarter for the Royals.
Scranton remained steady throughout the second half and closed out the game strong. Conklin, Stalter, and Lane all posted hat tricks for the Royals while Halfpenny, sophomore attacker Tara Kotten (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South), and Lane each posted two goals. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Crotty (Long Beach, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) also found the back of the net on Saturday evening for Scranton. Stalter added a team-high three assists to notch a career-high six points, while Halfpenny also recorded three assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) was solid for Scranton, posting 10 saves on 19 shots. Tanajewski earned a team-high three caused turnovers in the win while Halfpenny, Conklin, and senior defender Emily Schum (East Hanover, N.J. / Morris Catholic) each picked up four ground balls.
The Royals are home again this Wednesday when they host Kean at 4:00 PM on Weiss Field.
