Box Score SCRANTON, PA (April 20, 2022) -- The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team outscored Drew University 9-1 in the second half to earn a 15-5 Landmark Conference victory at Weiss Field on Wednesday evening.
The Royals (9-5) started the game off strong by scoring in the opening two minutes of the game on a free position attempt that was converted by junior Caroline Miller (Huntington, N.Y. / Elwood-John H. Glenn) at the 13:39 mark. The Royals added two more goals in the first period from a pair of freshman in Allie Halfpenny Mount (Laurel, N.J. / Lenape) and Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) to take a 3-0 lead into the second quarter.
The Rangers made a push in the early stages of the second period as they cut Scranton's lead to just one goal at the 6:23 mark. The Royal's responded well as senior Jennifer Williams (Branchburg, N.J. / Somerville) scored off an assist from Halfpenny to regain the two goal cushion. Halfpenny scored her second goal of the game following a goal from Drew to bring the score to 5-3 with just over two minutes to play in the first half. The Rangers found the back of the net again in the late stages of the second period but Halle Conklin (Point Lookout, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) provided an answer for Scranton as she scored on a free position attempt in the final second of the first half.
The Royals came out firing in the second half as they scored nine consecutive goals to solidify a 15-5 conference win over the Rangers. Halfpenny scored the lone hat trick of the game for Scranton, while McCarren, Miller, and sophomore Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) each added a pair of goals.
The sophomore defensive duo of Nicolina Mauro (South Hempstead, N.Y. / South Side) and Grace Dabulas (Scotch Plains, N.J. / Westfield) were stellar, combining for nine caused turnovers and six ground balls in the game. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y. / Sanford H. Calhoun) came through when she was called upon as she finished with five saves on nine shots faced.
The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Moravian University for another Landmark Conference battle. Action gets underway at 1:00 PM in Bethlehem, PA.
