Box Score BETHLEHEM, PA (April 23, 2022) -- The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team clinched a spot in this year's Landmark Conference playoffs with an 18-12 win over Moravian University on Saturday afternoon.
The Royals (10-5) have now won five consecutive games, and are 5-1 in conference play.
Junior Caroline Miller (Huntington, N.Y. / Elwood-John H. Glenn) scored the games' opening goal in the first three minutes of play to give Scranton an early 1-0 lead. Moravian responded well with a pair of goals in the late stages of the first period to hold a one goal advantage headed into the second quarter.
Sophomore Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) took control in the second quarter for Scranton as she scored three goals in the period. Freshman Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy) also found the back of the net for the Royals in the second while adding an assist on Tanajewski's last goal of the first half. Scranton held a 5-3 lead headed into halftime.
The third period had plently of action as eight different Royals found the back of the net. Scranton outscored Moravian 8-5 in the third quarter and led 13-8 headed into the fourth and final period.
Both sides continued to exchange goals in the fourth period but the Scranton offense showed up yet again, while the defense held it's ground and the Royals secured an 18-12 conference victory over the Greyhounds.
12 different Royals got on the score board in the game, including four goals from Tanajewski and a pair of goals from Lane, sophomore Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y. / Lynbrook), and freshman Allie Halfpenny (Mount Laurel, N.J. / Lenape).
Miller was outstanding on draw controls, as she posted a career-high 11 in the win. Senior Emily Schum (East Hanover, N.J. / Morris Catholic) had another strong defensive outing for Scranton as she recorded four ground balls, six draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action this Wednesday when they host Cabrini University at Weiss Field at 4 PM.
