Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (1-6) put together a late comeback effort, but fell short in a 16-11 loss to the Rowan University Profs (5-2) on Wednesday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton.
Rowan got on the board just 1:28 into the game and held a 2-0 lead later in the quarter when junior Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) got the Royals on the board with her first goal of the day with 3:32 left in the first quarter. The Profs scored three goals over the final 2:11 of the quarter to take a 5-1 lead, but Scranton quickly began to battle back with two goals just 0:31 apart in the first minute plus of the second quarter. A tally from Stalter and a free position goal by junior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) cut the lead to 5-3 for the time being. From there, the visitors scored six of the final seven in the quarter and took an 11-4 advantage into halftime.
After the Profs opened the scoring in the third quarter, sophomore Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) scored for Scranton at the 10:27 mark and Stalter added two more goals just 1:14 apart later in the period that cut the deficit to 15-7. Lane fed junior Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) for a goal to begin the fourth quarter and Reich had an assist on one of two goals from sophomore Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) in the final six plus minutes as Scranton drew within five at 16-11.
Stalter led the Royals with four goals on the day and matched her career-high that had been set at Haverford on Mar. 5, 2022. McCarren and Reich added two goals apiece to go along with one each from Lane, Tanajewski and senior Maggie Smith (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock).
Erin Renshaw paced Rowan with five goals and Julianna Corson posted seven points on four goals and three assists.
Tanajewski also recorded three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers for Scranton, while sophomore Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y/Sanford H. Calhoun) made 10 saves in net and collected three ground balls of her own.
The Royals will open Landmark Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Juniata with action slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
