Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (6-7, 3-1 Landmark) scored nine goals in the second quarter to break the game open and rolled to a 20-6 victory over the Drew Rangers (7-6, 2-2 Landmark) on Wednesday afternoon at Ranger Stadium in Madison.
The 20 goals are a season-high for the Royals and the most they have scored since a 24-13 win over Moravian in the Landmark Conference semifinals on May 4, 2022.
Sophomore Molly McCarren's (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) goal off of a feed from junior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) got the Royals on the board at the 9:56 mark of the first quarter and following a pair of Drew goals, fellow junior Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) tallied a free position goal to even things at two apiece. In the second quarter, McCarren and classmate Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) scored just 0:11 apart and Drew then cut the lead to a goal before consecutive goals by Tanajewski made it 6-3 with 10:39 to play. The Rangers scored the next goal, but Scranton then answered with five straight including two from Stalter to take an 11-4 advantage into the locker room.
The Royals continued the dominance into the third quarter as Lane and junior Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) scored just 0:20 apart in the early stages for a 13-4 lead. Reich scored again less than two minutes later and Scranton's defense held Drew without a goal in the quarter, which helped extend the lead to 17-4 after three. Head coach Chrissy Trescavage's team led by as many as 14 following Tanajewski's third goal of the day early in the fourth and Stalter along with senior Maggie Smith (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) both found the back of the net to help preserve the victory.
Five different players tallied multi-goal games for the Royals led by four apiece from McCarren and Stalter, three each from Lane and Tanajewski and two by Reich.
For McCarren, her four goals set a new career-high and Stalter matched her career-best with the four tallies.
Tanajewski also added two assists and two draw controls, while sophomore Shannon DiDominica (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) scored a goal and recorded six draw controls.
