Big First Half Leads Women's Lacrosse Past Goucher in 21-0 Victory

Box Score

TOWSON, Md. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (7-7, 4-1 Landmark) scored 13 goals in the first half and rolled to a 21-0 victory over the Goucher College Gophers (3-12, 0-5 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field in Towson.

This marks the second straight game that the Royals have scored 20-plus goals following a 20-6 win over Drew on Wednesday.

The game also included a lengthy lightning delay that began with 9:49 to play in the second quarter.

Sophomore Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) opened the scoring for the Royals with 9:46 left in the first quarter and classmate Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) followed two plus minutes later off a feed from Lane for an early 2-0 lead. Scranton then scored five goals in the final 4:47 of the quarter with McCarren, sophomore Shannon DiDominica (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), senior Tara Kotten (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South), sophomore Catherine McGlynn (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and junior Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) all finding the back of the net.

The Royals quickly extended the lead to 11-0 with four goals in the first 5:01 of the second quarter and Stalter completed the hat trick just prior to the lightning delay. After play resumed, head coach Chrissy Trescavage's team took a 13-0 lead into the halftime break following goals from juniors Courtney Delehanty (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) and McKenna Moore (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan).

Scranton added five more goals in the third quarter and cruised to the 21-0 win. Sophomore Alexis Nardella (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) scored two more goals in the second half to notch her first career hat trick.

Nardella and Stalter had three goals apiece to lead the way offensively, while DiDominica, McCarren and McGlynn all tallied two goals apiece. Juniors Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) and Grace Dabulas (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) both had four draw controls apiece in the victory.

Elsewhere for Scranton, Lane added a goal, assist, ground ball and two caused turnovers.

Sophomore Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) and freshman Eva Guerino (Hopewell, N.J./Pennington School) split the duties in net with each making one save apiece.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 22 versus Catholic in a Landmark Conference showdown. Action at Weiss Field is slated to get underway at 12 p.m.
