Burgette Takes First at 174 as Wrestling Finishes Fifth at Penn Tech Invitational

WILLIAMSPORT, PA -- Graduate student Jacob Burgette earned first place in the 174 pound weight class as The University of Scranton placed fifth of eight teams at the Penn Tech Invitational on Saturday.

Castleton took the team title with a final score of 160. The Royals earned 89.5 points on the day.

Top Performers
  • After receiving a bye in the opening round, Burgette won his first bout of the day by an 18-1 tech fall against Colby Celuck of Castleton. He then won the semifinals and championship by medical forfeits from his opponents.
  • Junior Jake Rudy earned third place in the 165 pound bracket. Rudy won his opening bout in a 9-6 decision over Logan Bruce of Castleton. After falling to Ryan Lepore of Alvernia in the semifinals, Rudy bounced back in the third place bout with a 17-1 tech fall victory against Julian Schott of Marymount.
  • In the 125 pound bracket, sophomore Joseph Capello earned fourth place. Capello opened the day with a 17-1 tech fall win over Faithful Fulcher of Randolph. He followed up with a pin in 2:59 against George Leischner of Thaddeus Stevens. Capello fell in the semifinals and the third place match.

The wrestling team returns to action on Tuesday when they host Muhlenberg at the John Long Center at 7:00 PM.
