WILLIAMSPORT, PA -- The University of Scranton wrestling team had a strong showing as it opened the 2024-25 season at the Lycoming Invitational on Sunday.
Top Performers
- Freshman Donell Young earned first place at 165 and recorded 10 points on the day. The Fairfield, CT native began the day with a 15-0 tech fall win against Aleksey Svetlichniy of Marymount. In his second bout of the day, Young pinned Dylan Specht of St. John Fisher in just 1:12 for his first collegiate pin. Young closed out his outstanding performance with a 6-4 decision victory over Tristian Robinson-July of Cortland.
- Sophomore Joseph Cappello posted back-to-back pins in his first two bouts of the tournament in the 125 pound bracket. He added a 26-10 tech fall victory over Noah Barke of Cortland in his third and final bout.
- Freshman Kristian Koroveshi went 3-0 on the day for Scranton at 184. He opened up the day with an 8-7 decision win over Robert Cunningham of Cortland. In his next bout, Koroveshi pinned Cole Wilson of Penn State Behrend in 4:06. He closed out the day with a 15-0 tech fall win against Tristan Cuellar of Misericordia.
- In the heavyweight division, freshman Max Shnipes also went 3-0 in the invitational with three pins. Shnipes pinned Edgar Ibarra of Marymount in just 44 seconds in the opening bout. He added pins against Devin Champagne (3:16) of St. John Fisher and Steven Ramirez (1:06) of Marymount.
