Sophomore guard Luca Baratta (Richboro, Pa./Perkiomen School)Â and junior guard Colin Merriman (Mount Laurel, N.J./Camden Catholic)Â of The University of Scranton men's basketball team notched College Sports Communicators' (CSC) Academic All-District honors as released by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first career Academic All-District honor for both student-athletes.
Academic All-District recognizes student-athletes for their performance both on the field and in the classroom and must hold a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA while competing in at least 90% of games/matches or starting 66%.
Baratta played in all 25 games this season for the Royals and made 19 starts, averaging 6.6 points and shooting 35.5% from beyond the arc to go along with 2.5 boards per game. The Richboro, Pa., native sank 38 three-pointers on the year and scored a career-high 21 points (5-of-8 3PT) in a win at Lycoming on Jan. 17. In the classroom, Baratta holds a 3.90 GPA as a Finance major and has been named to the Dean's List three times.
For Merriman, the Mount Laurel, N.J., native appeared in 24 games and averaged 3.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He shot 51.8% from the field on the season. Merriman has a 3.57 GPA in the Finance program and is a four-time Dean's List selection.
