Preview: Women's Lacrosse Set to Host Landmark Championship Against Catholic on Saturday

The top seeded University of Scranton women's lacrosse team will host Saturday's Landmark Conference Championship game after its 16-6 semifinal victory against fifth seeded Susquehanna University on Thursday afternoon. The Royals will host second seeded Catholic University at Weiss Field on Saturday at noon.

  • The championship game will take place on Saturday, May 3 at noon at Weiss Field in Scranton, PA.
  • Tickets: $10 for adults (18+), $5 for minors (10-17), free for children 9 and under, and Landmark students and faculty with ID. Cash will not be accepted at the venue. Click here to purchase tickets.

Scranton

  • Record: 13-5 (9-0, LC)
  • Last Landmark Championship: 2024
  • The Royals defeated Susquehanna University 16-6 in the semifinals to earn their spot in the Landmark Title game for the ninth consecutive season. 
  • The Royals lead the Landmark in goals against on average (7.98) and are second goals scored per game (14.72). 
  • Head coach Chrissy Trescavage is in her seventh season at the helm of this Scranton team and has led the Royals to an 80-34 record in that time. Trescavage and her coaching staff won the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year this season as they search for their third straight championship title.

Royals to Watch

  • Senior Grace Lane, an All-Landmark First Team selection this season, leads the team and ranks fourth in the Landmark with 44 goals this season. The Long Beach, N.Y. native has scored 27 goals and 10 assists in seven games played against Catholic, and she has tallied 39 points on 30 goals and nine assists in just nine career Landmark Conference playoff games.
  • Graduate student Erin Reich has tallied 59 points on 34 goals and a career-high 25 assists this season, earning herself All-Landmark Second Team honors. Reich has 22 goals and four assists in 10 career Landmark playoff games, including eight goals in the 2023 Landmark Title Game against Catholic as she led Scranton to its first ever Landmark Title.
  • Securing an All-Landmark First Team nod in her first season as the starter, goalkeeper Eva Guerino paces the Landmark Conference with her 6.55 goals against average and a .543 save percentage. Although she doesn't qualify for national rankings in terms of minutes played, her save percentage would be sixth in the nation, while her goals against average is good for eighth in the country. 

Catholic

  • Record: 10-8 (8-1, LC)
  • Last Landmark Championship: 2022
  • Catholic advanced to the championship after defeating No. 3 seeded Juniata 17-3 in the semifinals on Thursday.
  • Catholic leads the Landmark with 14.83 goals per game, and the Cardinals rank second in the Conference behind Scranton in goals against average (8.45).
  • Head coach Meghan McDonogh is in her 19th season at the helm of this Cardinals team. McDonogh has guided the Cardinals to 13 Landmark Conference Championships and is a six-time coach of the year, most recently in 2021.

Cardinals to Watch

  • Freshman Henley Bredemann earned All-Landmark Conference First Team honors and won the Landmark Offensive Rookie of the Year this season. Bredemann is ninth in the Landmark in goals (40) and has added six assists and 59 draw controls. She tallied two goals and two assists in the semifinals win over Juniata.
  • Senior Jessie Lee earned All-Landmark First Team honors this season after recording career-highs with 48 points, 24 goals and 24 assists. Lee has seven multiple-goal games this season and is top 10 in the conference in assists and caused turnovers. Lee has tallied 11 points on six goals and five assists in seven Landmark Conference playoff games.
  • Senior Lauren Bendo anchors the Catholic defense that allows a minute 8.45 goals per game. Bendo received an All-Landmark First Team nod this season behind her 34 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers in 18 starts this year.

Championship Facts

  • This is the ninth consecutive meeting in the Landmark Title game between Scranton and Catholic. The Cardinals won the first six of those matchups, but the Royals have won the two most recent contests during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
  • Scranton is in its ninth straight Championship Game appearance and are looking to complete the three-peat for the first time in program history.
  • Catholic is making its 17th straight Championship Game appearance and are looking for its Conference leading 14th Landmark Title.

Inside the Series

  • Catholic leads the all-time series 25-4, although Scranton has won four straight games against the Cardinals.
  • Earlier this season, the Royals defeated the Cardinals 19-6. After the Royals held a 3-2 lead following the first quarter, Scranton scored eight goals to run away with it. Reich led the Royals with five goals, and Hewitt scored four times in the win.
