SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton wrestling team put together a strong performance on Saturday, earning decisive wins over Sussex Community College (38–17) and Northampton Community College (51–6) in a tri-match at the John Long Center.
Against Sussex, Scranton jumped out to an early lead with forfeits at 125, 133, and 149 pounds before continuing to build momentum through the middle weights. Donell Young delivered a key technical fall at 165 pounds, while Quinton Laughlin added a 6–3 decision at 184. Heavyweight Max Shnipes sealed the victory with a pin in just 51 seconds to close out the match.
The Royals carried that energy into their matchup with Northampton, dominating from start to finish. Scranton recorded five pins and three technical falls in the dual, highlighted by technical falls from Joseph Cappello (125), Nicholas Gilmore (141), and Jake Rudy (174). Pins from Luke Burke, Kevin McCarvill, and Max Shnipes helped power the Royals to the 51–6 victory.
Scranton also picked up additional bonus points in exhibition bouts, including a pin by Luke Burke and a first-period fall from Alex Boyd.
Next Up: The Royals return to the mat on Sunday, Feb. 1, competing at the Rennie Rodarmel Invitational hosted by Lycoming College. Action is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
