ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Scranton women's track and field team delivered an outstanding performance Saturday at the Ithaca College Six Way Invitational, highlighted by multiple event victories, a relay win, and two significant program milestones to continue a strong start to the indoor season.
Senior Emily Hopkins captured first place in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 18:10.77 to lead the Royals in the distance events. Olivia Miller claimed the 400-meter title with a winning time of 59.99 seconds, becoming just the second female athlete in program history to break one minute in the event. Tasia Miniotis placed third (1:00.68) and Ella Wiskidensky finished sixth (1:02.85).
Sam Sharrow continued her standout season by breaking her own program record in the 60 meters, finishing second with a time of 7.74 seconds. Sharrow went on to win the 200 meters in 25.96 seconds and captured first place in the long jump with a mark of 5.42 meters. Jocelyn Smith placed fifth in the 60 meters (7:93) and finished second in the 200 meters (26.25), while Kaia Grantham added a seventh-place finish in the 60 meters (8.40).
In the hurdles, Molly White finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.51 seconds. Emily Miller placed fifth in the mile (5:58.13), while Maura Durcan added a seventh-place finish (6:09.73). In the 800 meters, Emma DiLemme finished sixth (2:29.70) and Helen Socorso placed seventh (2:30.34).
Scranton also picked up a pair of strong relay finishes, taking second in the 4x200 relay with a program record breaking time of 1:46.21 and winning the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:50.11.
In the field events, White finished fifth in the high jump (1.59m), while Elena Funk placed eighth (1.49m).
Up next: The Royals will return to Ithaca College next weekend for the Bomber Invitational.
