Box Score
With just four games remaining in the regular season, The
University of Scranton men’s basketball team hosts Drew
University in a key Landmark Conference matchup tonight at 7 p.m.
in the Long Center.
The Rangers, now 10-11 overall and 4-6 in the conference, are one
of five teams battling for the third and fourth seed when the
Landmark tournament begins on Wednesday, February 26. For the
Royals, a victory guarantees them at least one home game in the
upcoming playoffs.
Tickets are $5.00 for adults (18-61) and $3.00 for non-University
of Scranton students (8-17) and senior citizens (62 and
older). All children, seven and under accompanied by adult,
will be admitted free as well as all Scranton students, faculty,
and staff. Veteran announcer Dean Corwin and Ed Ravert will
handle the call on WUSR, 99.5 FM, and over the Internet at
www.wusrfm.com.
The Royals are coming off their eighth straight win, a
come-from-behind 77-73 victory over Susquehanna University Saturday
at the Long Center, where they got key performances from senior
guards Tommy
Morgan (Greenlawn, NY/Chaminade) and Michael Barr (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale
Catholic), junior guard Justin Klingman (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington
Heights), and sophomore forward Brendan Boken (South Pasadena,
Calif./Loyola).
Morgan played 37 minutes and finished with 17 points, six
rebounds, and four assists, Barr and Klingman combined for 25
points on 8 of 13 shooting from the field, and Boken scored 10 of
his team-high 20 points and pulled down eight of his team-high nine
rebounds in the second half to help Scranton erase a 44-36 halftime
deficit. Defensively, the Royals held the Crusaders to just
29 points in the second half after Susquehanna shot a sizzling
20-for-31 (64.5 percent) in the opening 20 minutes of play.
And even though the Rangers enter tonight’s game on a
two-game losing streak, they did end a long drought at the
Long Center last year, winning for the first time since 1997 when
they pulled out a 72-69 victory. Drew features one of the top
scoring threats in the conference in sophomore guard Mike
Klinger, the league's second-leading scorer at 20 points
per game. In the first meeting this year between Scranton and
Drew, he poured in 26 points in an 82-72 loss in Madison, New
Jersey, on January 22.
After tonight, the Royals will play their final regular-season
game on the road this Saturday, February 15, when they take on
co-Landmark Conference leader Catholic University at the DuFour
Center in Washington, DC, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
