WESTMINSTER, Md. – Junior Eric Calimano (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) earned three victories on the day as The University of Scranton wrestling team finished 2-1 at the Green Terror Duals at McDaniel College on Saturday.
Scranton (5-3) opened the event with a 27-16 loss to McDaniel, but came back to post a 25-13 win over Gettysburg and a 34-15 win over University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC).
Calimano won twice by pin and once by decision at heavyweight. He pinned McDaniel's Mathew Meagher in 1:03 in the first match of the day, decisions Gettysburg's Camden Stoops to complete the win over the Bullets, and clamped UMBC's Michael Bentivenga in 2:32 to end the day. He is now 8-0 with three pins on the season.
The Royals also received three victories from sophomore Nicholas DePierro (Freehold, N.J./Manalapan) at 125, two by decision and one by forfeit. He edged McDaniel's Nathaniel Frantz, 9-6, to start the day, and had an 11-5 win over Gettysburg's Lenny Ogozalek before picking up a forfeit against UMBC. DePierro is now 8-2 this season.

The Royals also received a 15-3 major decision victory from sophomore Zachary D'Apolito (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley Senior) at 157 pounds and thrilling 13-12 win from freshman Kevin Merle (Stroudsburg, Pa./Belvidere) at 174 pounds.
Scranton 25, Gettysburg 13
Scranton won five of the final six matches to down the Bullets. Freshman Liam Gallagher (Aberdeen, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) picked up his second career pin at 141, and D'Apolito's 5-0 victory at 157 pounds put Scranton ahead for good.
Junior Ian Evans (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) picked up a 2-0 win at 165 pounds, Merle pulled out a 3-2 win at 174, and freshman Daniel D'Agostini (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) had an 8-0 major decision at 184.
Scranton 34, UMBC 15
The Royals overcame an early deficit by again winning five of the final six matches. Evans got the comeback going with a 16-1 technical fall at 157 pounds and Merle had a tech. fall of his own, 16-0, at 174. D'Agostini followed with a pin in 4:10 at 184, and freshman Derek Fisher (Nanticoke, Pa./Nanticoke) put the match away with a pin in 1:06 at 197 pounds.
The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 2, when they host East Stroudsburg at 7 p.m. in the Long Center.
