SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s lacrosse team has solved its early season problems on offense.
Behind five goals and an assist from sophomore midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, NY/John S. Burke Catholic), four goals and two assists from freshman midfielder Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area), and three goals and an assist from senior midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown), the Royals rolled Misericordia University, 19-6, Tuesday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.
After scoring only four goals in its first two games, Scranton has exploded for 32 in its last two outings.
The Royals, now 2-2, also received two goals and two assists from junior midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, NY/Our Lady of Mercy Academy), two goals from sophomore midfielder Nikole Sullivan (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee), a goal and an assist from sophomore attacker Alyssa Farrell (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), and an goal from freshman midfielder Erin Pfail (Garden City, NY/Sacred Heart Academy).
Misericordia, which fell to 0-3, was led by senior midfielder Melina Juliano (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley), junior midfielder Allie Elmes (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay), and sophomore attackerLiz Mulvey (Green Brook, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory) with two goals apiece.
Scranton, which jumped out to an early 4-1 lead on its way to 14-3 halftime lead, held a 27-19 advantage in shots and a slight 14-13 advantage in draw controls. Defensively, the Royals caused seven turnovers, including three by junior midfielder and tri-captain Fiona Keelan (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck), and the goalkeeper trio of senior Emily Towey (Abington, Pa./Abington) and sophomores Grace Campbell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and Marne Rossetti (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) combined for nine saves.
Kerr’s performance eclipsed her previous best of four goals against Cabrini College on April 15, 2014, at Fitzpatrick Field. With five points today, Goss is now only three shy of moving into the top 10 all-time in Scranton history in scoring. She now has 151 total points (140 goals, 11 assists).
Scranton’s 19-goal outburst today is its highest since scoring 22 against New Paltz on March 28, 2012, in New Paltz, New York.
The Royals will return to action this Saturday, March 14, against Oneonta State in Oneonta, New York, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
