WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Senior Eric Calimano (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) went 3-0, including a pair of pins, to reach the 20-victory mark this season as The University of Scranton wrestling team went 1-2 in a quad-match Sunday in the Marts Center at Wilkes University.

The Royals (8-8) opened the day by rallying for a 24-18 win over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), but could not do the same in a 19-17 loss to Oneonta State in their second match of the day. They finished the afternoon with a 32-9 loss to Wilkes.

Calimano entered the day with a 17-2 record immediately played a key role in the victory over RIT. With the match tied at 18, he took the mat for his 285-pound match and gave Scranton the victory by pinning RIT's Kelsey Patten in 5:54, his fifth pin of the season.

Sophomore Nicholas DePierro (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) also had a pin at 133 pounds against RIT, his sixth of the season. Junior Ian Evans (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) at 157 pounds and freshman Daniel D'Agostini (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) at 184 added victories by decision, and freshman Derek Fisher (Nanticoke, Pa./Nanticoke) won by forfeit at 197.

Against Oneonta State, Evans picked up a major decision at 157 and D'Agostini did the same at 184 to pull the Royals within 16-14. But after the Red Dragons got a decision at 197, the Royals needed another pin from Calimano for the win. He came up short, settling for a 6-3 decision. Freshman Liam Gallagher (Aberdeen, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) also had a win by forfeit at 141 pounds.

In the loss to Wilkes, Calimano added his second pin of the day and sixth of the season, putting the clamps on his opponent in 2:03. The Royals also got a 9-4 decision at 174 pounds from freshman Kevin Merle (Stroudsburg, Pa./Belvidere).

The three victories give Calimano 51 for his career. That's the 16th-highest total in Royals history.

Scranton will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 2, when they travel to Allentown, Pa. to take on Muhlenberg at 7 p.m.
