Box Score

Senior Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) and sophomore Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) each recorded hat tricks, as the University of Scranton women's lacrosse team opened an insurmountable 8-1 lead at halftime and never looked back in a 12-4 victory over visiting Misericordia at chilly Fitzpatrick Field on Thursday evening.

With the victory, Scranton remains unbeaten on the young season at 2-0, while Misericordia fell to 1-2 with the defeat.

To kick-off the contest, the Royals scored three unanswered goals in the opening moments of the first period to go up 3-0 on the visiting Cougars in the first 13 minutes of regulation. Kerr scored the first two goals of the afternoon for Scranton, as freshman Erin Ahern (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) nabbed an assist on Kerr's second goal of the day.

The third score was Rogers first of the day, as the goal, which was assisted by sophomore Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers), gave Scranton the early 3-0 edge. Misericordia, however, answered this score with their first goal of the contest, cutting the Royals lead down to 3-1 with 14:31 left in the first half.

From here on out in the period, however, Scranton dominated, scoring five unanswered goals over that time frame to take a commanding 8-1 lead into intermission.

Kerr started the scoring string with her third goal of the contest, which was followed by a tally by junior Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), who made it a 5-1 Scranton lead after scoring off an assist from Olert.

Junior Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) then got in on the scoring act with eight minutes left, scoring an unassisted goal to put the Royals up 6-1.

Sophomore Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) followed the goal with a score of her own (off a Kerr assist), and freshman Meghan Loomie (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) rounded out the scoring barrage with a goal with 55 seconds left to give Scranton a seven-goal lead. Rogers assisted Loomie's goal, as well.

Up by seven to open the second half, Scranton quickly extended the lead out to 9-1 as Rogers scored her second goal of the day off an assist from Olert. Misericordia, however, struck back, scoring three unanswered goals to cut the Scranton lead down to 9-4 with 10 minutes left.

But, the Royals ended the match with three straight goals, as Siepietowski, Angelo and Rogers scored in the final six minutes of the game.

In net, freshman Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) started and earned her first career win, making eight saves, while allowing just three goals in just over 41 minutes of action in net.

The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Lebanon Valley at Fitzpatrick Field. Things get underway at 1 p.m.
