Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Misericordia for Third Straight Win, 14-4

Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (4-6) scored 12 of the first 13 goals of the game through the first three quarters and rolled to a 14-4 win over the Misericordia Cougars (3-6) in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton.

This marked the first meeting between the two programs since Mar. 11, 2020.

Junior Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) got the Royals on the board just over six minutes into the game and later in the quarter, classmate Tara Kotten (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) struck for a goal before Reich scored just 0:19 later off a feed from Kotten and the hosts led 3-1 after one quarter. Reich completed the hat trick at the 9:53 mark of the second quarter and sophomore Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) fed junior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) less than a minute later for a 5-1 lead. The Royals eventually took a 7-1 lead into the locker room as Lane and fellow sophomore Shannon DiDominica (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) found the back of the net.

In the third quarter, Scranton broke open the game and tallied five goals in the quarter from Lane, Kotten, sophomore Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) and junior Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) opened up a 12-1 advantage. McCarren's second tally of the quarter came with just 10 seconds left with an assist from DiDominica.

Misericordia was unable to get any closer than nine goals the rest of the way and both freshman Jessica McCabe (Pearl River, N.Y./Nanuet) and sophomore Catherine McGlynn (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) scored for the Royals in the fourth period.

Reich led the way offensively with a hat trick and has now recorded four straight multi-goal games, while Lane and Kotten both added three points apiece on two goals and an assist.

Defensively, junior Grace Dabulas (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) caused three turnovers and also collected four ground balls.

Sophomore Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) made five saves in 45 minutes of action and freshman Eva Guerino (Hopewell, N.J./Pennington School) posted four saves in the fourth quarter for Scranton.

Lena Conway registered 11 saves in the setback for the Cougars.

The Royals hit the road to battle Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
