SELINSGROVE, Pa.—The University of Scranton volleyball team
ended its 2012 season with a 3-0 loss to Susquehanna University in
the quarterfinals of the Landmark Conference tournament Thursday
evening at Houts Gymnasium.
Sophomore outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
led the Royals with 15 kills and 20 digs—her team-leading
21st ‘double-double’ of the season—and senior
Jenell McFadden (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy
Academy) finished with eight kills and 14 digs as Scranton
put the wraps on a 20-15 season.
Senior libero Marissa Every (East Norriton, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph
Academy) had 26 digs and senior setters Juli Woods
(Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and Emily
Keim (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) combined for 31 assists
and 25 digs. Scranton also received a solid effort from
freshman Stephanie Klug (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood),
who finished with five kills and two blocks.
Tonight’s match was the final one for the Royal senior class
of McFadden, Every, Keim, and Woods, each of whom played a
significant role in the steady progress of the program over the
past four years. This class improved from eight wins as
freshmen in 2009, to 15 in 2010, to 17 last year, and to 20 this
past season, the most for the program since 2008.
In addition, all four are also ranked among the all-time
statistical leaders in Scranton history. McFadden ends her
career first in attack attempts (3930), fifth in kills (1145),
seventh in digs (1275), and 13th in service aces (135), while Every
is the first and only player in Royals history to record more than
2000 digs in a career, finishing with 2,124.
Woods and Keim are now fifth (2109) and seventh (1412) in assists,
respectively, while Keim is also seventh in service aces (172).
Crilly’s 15 kills tonight gives her 459 for the season, which
is the second highest single-season total in Scranton history.
Susquehanna, now 17-21, advances to the semifinals of the Landmark
Conference tournament to be held this Saturday, November 3, on the
campus of Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
